Larry’s parents acquired this dairy farm on Barr Hill Road in 1949, and Larry acquired it from them in 1969. On September 10, 2018, Larry and Sherral sold a conservation easement to the Vermont Land Trust.
The Freeman Foundation financed the sale, adding to the many VLT easements it has facilitated in Greensboro. The Greensboro Land Trust made a modest contribution.
The easement contains an Option to Purchase at Agricultural Value, meaning that if the owner at the time chooses to sell to a buyer who is not a farmer or family member, the VLT has the option to buy the farm at its agricultural, rather than market value, and recruit a new farmer to run it.
