This 128-acre property near the northwest corner of Caspian Lake, known as Campbell’s Corner, was conserved with the GLT in December 2019 by Sylvia, Stephen and Charlie Lotspeich. Historically it comprises most of the Laird dairy farm. It contains a triumvirate of creeks, notably Cemetery Brook; a wetland filtration system for runoff into Caspian Lake to the east; a creek to Eligo Pond to the west; a viewshed for the lake region; and a broad corridor for wildlife, adjoining the David and Nicholas Edsall conserved property. The main farmhouse on Lake Shore Road is the only remaining structure, but the conservation easement allows another residence to be built along Edsall Road.
The property’s fields have a relatively shallow bedrock that pushes water to the surface in various places, especially in the SE corner. A series of drainage pipes set in coarse gravel below ground level drains and diverts water towards a culvert from the northern field, and towards Cemetery Brook from the southern field. This allows tractors and other heavy farming equipment to access the fields.
